Day 2: Start a New Tradition
This next challenge comes from two of the Six Love What's Next Pursuits... Redefine Normal and Humans. Traditions are important because they strengthen the family bond, they give a sense of identity, and create lasting memories which in all, creates lasting relationships which is what our Humans Pursuit is all about! But some times we out grow a tradition and it's time to introduce a new one and that's where the Redefine Normal Pursuit comes into play. Traditions don’t necessarily have to be a big deal with lots of preparation. They also don’t have to be unique…just unique to you!
Here are a list of some favorite traditions people have implemented into their holiday season.
*Write down in your journal what new tradition you want to implement and plan how you will achieve it! Good Luck!
Here are a list of some favorite traditions people have implemented into their holiday season.
- Go Iceskating as a family: Even if you live in a city, most places have an outdoor temporary community ice rink. Make a day or evening of it. Pack hot cocoa and cookies and enjoy the festivities.
- Volunteer at Your Local Food Bank: This is something that impacts the whole family as well as those in need. Sign up early because dates fill up quickly.
- See the Lights: Get you pjs on and take a spin around the best neighborhood in your area for lights. Pop popcorn and listen to Christmas music while you tour around the lights.
- Deliver Warm Cookies/Breads to Your Neighbors on Christmas Eve Morning. You can make them ahead of time and then put them in your oven to warm right before you deliver them. What a great surprise you will give them first thing in the morning on Christmas Eve. We put them in a insulated cooler when we deliver so they stay warm.
- Call a Distant Relative and Sing a Christmas Carol: Your relative will either find humor in your singing or pure joy depending on if you can sing or not. Either way you will make their day! If you can’t bare the thought of singing you can play a song over the phone when they answer.
- Cook/bake a holiday favorite that is native to the country where your family came from . Here is a list of countries and their holiday dinners.
- Give a New Ornament to Your Loved Ones Every Year: Give an ornament that represents the past year so when you look back year after year you can be reminded of what happened and reminisce.
- Wait to Put Baby Jesus in the Manger Until Christmas Morning: Set up your nativity scene but wait until Christmas morning to place him in the nativity scene.
- Ring a Bell Every Hour on Christmas Eve until Midnight.
- Do a family Fun Run: Across America fun runs are held to raise money for different charities. Not only will you be supporting a good cause, you will be working off your Christmas dinner.
- Make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as a family and hand them out to the homeless in your city.
- Throw a Polar Express Party for your kiddos. Email me if you want the details @ [email protected]
